When a catastrophic outbreak of Lovecraftian creatures overruns a hospital, a military team is rapidly assembled and dispatched on a warship to confront the source: the ancient cosmic entity Cthulhu, rising once again from the deep ocean. The mission is torn between two opposing forces — the cold, ruthless Dr. Ilsa, who wants the creature destroyed, and Daniel, who believes it can be reasoned with. As the ship becomes a battleground and crew members begin a horrifying transformation, the threat turns inward. In a desperate final gambit, Daniel confronts Cthulhu directly — not with weapons, but with an appeal to the entity's capacity for empathy — in a climax that is as surprising as it is unconventional for the genre.
