Princess Elizabeth, born on April 21st, 1926, was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and the Queen Mother. Her early life unfolded at a time when Britain was recovering from World War I, and her place in the royal line of succession seemed distant. Elizabeth was third in line to the throne, behind her uncle, Edward VIII, and her father.
Along with her younger sister, Princess Margaret, Elizabeth was educated at home, with lessons focused on history, languages, and music. However, her life changed dramatically in 1936 when her uncle abdicated, and her father became king, making Elizabeth second in line to the throne.
