Movie Info Sheet

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on April 21, 1926, and became second in line to the British throne following the abdication of her uncle, Edward VIII, in 1936. Raised in a relatively normal environment with her younger sister Margaret, Elizabeth enjoyed a close-knit family life, free from the public pressures that would come later. As she grew older, Elizabeth's sense of duty and devotion to her role as a future monarch began to define her. When she became Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, following her father’s death, she would go on to lead the British Empire with remarkable grace, becoming one of the most powerful women in the world.
