King George VI became monarch unexpectedly in 1936 after the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. At a time when Nazi Germany threatened Europe, George, a shy and introverted man with a debilitating stammer, was thrust into a leadership role that would define his reign. Despite his personal challenges, he found the courage to speak to the nation, especially during World War II, providing hope and strength to the British people. With the support of his wife, Elizabeth (the future Queen Mother), and speech therapist Lionel Logue, George overcame his stammer, proving that even the most unlikely monarch could inspire a nation in crisis.
