Movie Info Sheet

In 1992, the British royal family endured a period of public and personal turmoil, which Queen Elizabeth II referred to as an "annus horribilis." Three of her children—Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Charles—each went through highly publicized divorces. Prince Charles and Diana’s marriage, which began with a grand royal wedding in 1981, ended in divorce in 1996 after years of infidelity and unhappiness. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s marriage also ended in 1996 after ten years, and Princess Anne’s marriage to Captain Mark Phillips ended in 1992 after nearly 20 years. These divorces revealed the private struggles behind the royal family’s public image and marked a turning point in its modern history.
