Queen Elizabeth II’s death on 8th September 2022 brought about the immediate ascension of her son, Prince Charles, to the throne as King Charles III. However, the transition to a new monarch, while immediate, follows a deeply rooted process steeped in tradition. The Accession Council is the first step, where key officials formally proclaim the new king. Charles then swears an oath of allegiance, reaffirming his duty to the realm. Proclamations are made, and the bureaucracy of royal succession takes its course. While this moment marks the end of the Elizabethan era, it ushers in a new age under King Charles III.
