In the frozen wilderness of Kolyma, a prisoner forced to work in the forest-felling grounds struggles against the deadly pull of sleep. Exhausted and half-delirious, he knows that if he closes his eyes in the brutal cold, he will never wake again. To remain conscious, he clings to a strange word that suddenly appears in his mind — “Sententia.” Repeating it like a fragile incantation, the word becomes a last thread of thought holding him awake against the silence and cold.
